is this returnable if its a problem with the micro component system and not the remote?
do you have your old remote? if you do, grab a non-apple phone - turn on the camera - point the old remote into the camera like you are going to take a picture of the front of the remote - and press any button. you should see a slight flicker through the camera (have to look through the camera). this flicker tells you that the remote is transmitting. note, this little trick does not always work on apple phones.
