sounds like the IR portion of the remote is working - is your TV connected to the internet? an internet connection is required for full functionality of the TV. also, click HERE for this small manual on the remote control. there is a nice troubleshooting guide in it as well.

my sony remote is not working. I have replaced the batteries and still not working. The tv is an XBR-77A9G Master Series.
