QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • It takes several times pushing the on/off button on our SAMSUNG remote model number BN59-01223A to turn on/off our Samsung smart tv. Is the remote wearing out? New batteries did not solve the issue. If so, is this exact model remote still manufactured and available? If so, what is the cost? Who do I buy it from? Thank you.

thank you for thinking of us.  okay, let's dive right into this.  is the remote wearing out?  possibly.  before you go there - consider doing a power cycle.  for samsung, this rarely fixes the issue - but it worth 3 minutes.

what is a power cycle - it is basically a way to restart the programs that run within your TV and remote control.  here is how to complete the power cycle in broad strokes.
    - turn off your TV and unplug it.
    - while your TV is unplugged, remove the batteries from your remote control.
    - with the batteries removed - hold down any button for 60 seconds to drain any residual power.
    - reinstall batteries - plug in the TV -
    - try out the remote.

did not work?  test the remote - to see if it is dead.  here is a hack - it works with samsung phones - does NOT always work with apple phones.
    - your remote is an infrared remote.  you can not see the infrared with the naked eye - but you can see it through the camera!  yay!
    - whip out your phone - turn on your camera - grab your remote - step into a dimly lit room.
    - with the camera on - point the remote into the camera (like you are taking a picture of the end that is normally pointed at the TV) and hold down any button.
    - while you are holding down any button - look through your camera at the tip of the remote.
    - if the remote is transmitting an infrared signal, you will see a faint flicker looking through your camera.  being in a dimly lit room will help you see the flicker.
    - if you see the flicker.  this means that your remote is working just fine.
    - if you don't see a flicker.  your next step is a new remote.

okay, new remote, BN59-01223A is discontinued.  the remote that samsung recommends - click HERE.  your model number may not be included in the offering - but this is the correct remote.  we do have ONE remote that is an open box.  it is 20% less expensive.  if you would like the open box - simply give us a call (720) 379-8578 and ask for SAM-REM-8068.

Finally, with the above, there is no programming.  simply install batteries.  this is a true samsung remote.
