What purpose does this part serve? Necessary?
it helps to keep clothing from the lint filter area. if you have a lot of delicates - this will reduce snagging which is a good thing - maybe not as necessary if you have a lot of jeans. my perspective is that if this part stops one shirt from getting snagged - the part just paid for itself. food for thought.
