  • I own a Epson Perfection V500 , The Slide scanner only holds 4 slides at a time, My issue is that my grandfather passed away and I now have almost 1900 slides. This is going to take a VERY Long time to scan the whole bunch. Can the Perfection V500 be fitted with a different brand to scan more than 4 slides at a time..(Possible 12 at a time) . I looked t having a professional company do the scanning, but then I would not have the YEAR stamp available...My goal to scan in the slides and sort them by year...Any answer would be great....Ron

yes.  we are accustomed to helping out people with larger projects.  here are some suggestions:  1.  get a different scanner - consider picking up one USED on ebay - look for the V700, V750, V800 or V850.  Personally, i prefer the V700.  2.  Purchase extra slide trays - this way you can load while the scanner is running.  3.  Use silverfast on a stand alone basis (this is software).  this software is integrated with the Epson Scan utility (software) but does better scans when used on a stand alone basis.  3.  Be prepared for some of your slides to scan as red - for some slide types, inks dissipate over time - mangeta is the last to dissipate.  when you find these, flip the scan to a black and white - make a mental note of this. 4.  your slides are probably grouped together.  number the groups - scan the slides into separate folders labeled with the group number.  5.  when completed, sell the scanner to recoup your investment.  6.  final thought, do research on the DPI of the scan - this will increase / decrease the scan time - but makes a big difference - if you need insight - just let us know.  happy to share.
